Activision disappear further up own arseholes attempting to scare experienced businessmen

My blog is lacking in many things, primarily content and quality but hopefully the former will be rectified with my initiative to write more about news stuff! Don’t expect Newsnight, or even 8 out of 10 cats, just a few ponderings on the latest nuggets of gaming news to spring from a pile of PR bullshit. Link to the news story is in the headline…

Activision disappear further up their arseholes attempting to scare experienced businessmen

This is the news (hmmm this does sound a bit like 8 out of 10 cats) that surprise douche bags of the generation Activision Blizzard may not support the Playstation 3 for much longer. In an interview with The Times Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said:

“I’m getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don’t make it easy for me to support the platform. It’s expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation.”

Fair enough. It’s all true but the threat of not supporting the Playstation 3? That’s insane. Regardless of the difficulties it may be having compared to the other two consoles it still has a hefty user base to extract cash from and this new, arrogance-injected Activision love nothing more than extra dosh to line their kitty-litter trays with. It’s all scare-tactics as my headline says and also as my headline says, scare tactics that just won’t work. As big and scary as Activision may be, Sony have been around the block a few times and won’t let this stop them doing things in their own time.

Activision and the whole industry wants a price cut for the PS3 and it will happen eventually, just not now. I fully expect it to come in time for Christmas and if I was going to be extra dangerous I’d say it’ll be quite a hefty cut but Sony won’t be doing anything until they’re good and ready to announce it. I’m hoping Sony call their bluff, and it’s not often I take Sony’s side.

  1. It’s so funny to watch people get angry about what someone said about one console or the other.
